Today, we're diving into how ChatGPT revolutionized business automations, particularly in areas where human-like thinking was sorely needed. Let's unpack this together.

The Pre-ChatGPT Era

Remember the days before ChatGPT? When automating business processes, I'd often hit a roadblock where human intervention was essential. This was due to unstructured or unpredictable data in workflows. The solution? Inserting a human step in the middle of an automation. While effective, it meant that full automation was just out of reach.

Discovering ChatGPT

Then came ChatGPT. To say I was blown away is an understatement. ChatGPT, for those new to it, is a chatbot by OpenAI, launched on November 30, 2022. It's essentially a conversation wizard, capable of refining dialogue to your specific needs – style, detail, length, you name it.

Its logic and trainability opened up new avenues in automations. Tasks that needed a human touch could now be managed by this AI, streamlining processes like never before.

ChatGPT in Action

Here's where it gets exciting. Let me share a few instances where ChatGPT became my go-to:

  1. Mining Slack Profiles:

    • I’m a member of a busy professional Slack channel, new members introduce themselves on a specific channel. Despite the lack of a structured format, these introductions often include similar elements: names, LinkedIn profile links, a fun fact, and a brief career summary.

    • Utilizing ChatGPT, I developed an automation that sifts through each post’s unstructured text. It intelligently identifies and extracts key information: the member's name, their LinkedIn URL, and notable personal details.

    • The real magic happens next. ChatGPT crafts personalized notes for each LinkedIn connection, incorporating elements from their introduction. This personalized approach is not just a friendly touch but strategically positions my connection request as more genuine and personal.

    • This extracted data, along with the customized notes, is seamlessly integrated into a Monday.com board, where I make connections quickly and easily.

    • This organized approach transforms a simple introduction into a potential business opportunity, all managed efficiently within a unified platform.

  2. Revamping Radio Station Content:

    • Working with a talk radio client, the challenge was to manage a multitude of podcast episodes sourced from various RSS feeds. These feeds provided basic episode information: audio files, titles, dates, and descriptions.

    • However, the content quality varied significantly. Some descriptions suffered from grammatical errors, while others were excessively long or poorly formatted for website users.

    • ChatGPT was employed to refine these descriptions. It meticulously corrected grammatical errors, ensuring professional, error-free content. In cases where descriptions were unwieldy, ChatGPT summarized them, retaining the essence while fitting our desired web format.

    • The impact of this automation was twofold: it not only enhanced the quality of our web content, making it more accessible and reader-friendly, but it also streamlined the content management process, saving countless hours of manual editing.

  3. From Blog to Social Media Magic:

    • The challenge of maintaining an active and engaging social media presence is familiar to many. My approach leveraged ChatGPT to transform existing blog content into captivating LinkedIn posts.

    • The process begins with an automation that monitors for new blog entries. Once a new post is detected, ChatGPT steps in to distill the essence of the article into a concise, engaging summary tailored for LinkedIn's audience.

    • This summary, along with a link to the full blog post, is then scheduled on my LinkedIn profile. This system allows for a steady stream of fresh, relevant content, ensuring my LinkedIn presence remains dynamic and engaging with minimal manual input.

    • The result? A significant increase in engagement on my LinkedIn posts, with followers frequently commenting on the insightful summaries and the ease of accessing key takeaways from the longer blog articles.

The impact of ChatGPT in automation is monumental. It effectively removes the need for human steps in processes, allowing for more sophisticated and comprehensive automations.

Admittedly, mastering ChatGPT prompts was a learning curve. But like any skill, it gets better with practice. My advice? Dive in, experiment, and see the magic unfold.
